The Beginnings

In 1928, Bob Schenck and Howard Cahill founded the Valley Food Company, which manufactured Blossom potato chips. Soon after, they began a distributor relationship with Kraft Foods, and the business expanded to the sale of retail food items, becoming the Schenck Cheese Company. We distributed within a 30-mile radius throughout the 1930s and 1940s.

In 1952, the company incorporated under the name Schenck Foods Company. The product line grew to include food
service items to support institutional food customers. The second generation of family had begun with the leadership of
Bill Huntsberry and Getty Schenck Huntsberry.

David Huntsberry, a third generation leader, oversaw the expansion of the company in the late 90’s and 2000’s. Ensuring the solvency of the company through the rocky economic downturn in 2007 and 2008 was key to keeping the doors open today! David, now retired, serves as a key advisor to the company and Chairman of the Board.

Jason Huntsberry now leads in the tradition of the last three generations. Today, the company continues to thrive with more than 5,000 items in stock. We are a full-service distributor that can also special order to your needs. We also provide outstanding commercial coffee & beverage service and warewash and laundry equipment service – proudly serving more than 4,500 customers within a 100-mile radius of Winchester, Virginia.

He is especially proud to lead our latest initiative of partnering with local, organic, sustainable and farm-to-table providers to grow and service the next generation of Schenck’s customers. Complete with a revamped and comprehensive walk-in “warehouse store,” Schencks is poised for growth and success in 2017 and beyond!

As the youngest of the generations to have the fortunate opportunity to lead this company, I don’t take this great and awesome responsibility lightly. I love what I do and remain in awe of the longevity, dedication and work ethic of both the customers we serve and most importantly, our employees. Without dedicated and happy employees, it doesn’t matter how many customers we gain, we will not survive. To that end, Schencks is in the “people” business – doing that well ensures our food distribution business will grow and thrive.
